Temasek Polytechnic, iEcopolis & LG Electronics Singapore Sign S$8 Million Five-Year Partnership to Develop Campus Infrastructure of the Future

Temasek Polytechnic (TP), iEcopolis, and LG Electronics Singapore (LG), today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on developing TP’s i-Digital campus. To be developed at a cost of S$8 million over the next five years, the i-Digital campus will bring together iEcopolis’ eco-intelligent infrastructure solutions and LG’s business technology innovations to create future learning and test-bedding environment for TP’s 15,000 student population.

Under the first phase of the i-Digital campus development, iEcopolis and TP will invest more than S$2 million to acquire LG solutions including 3D energy saving digital displays, interactive digital signage, security and surveillance devices, a 11m x 6m LED video wall, and mobile platforms to link these technologies into a cohesive campus-wide system.

The i-Digital intelligent campus infrastructure will allow TP students from all disciplines to explore future possibilities with integrated and interactive digital display and surveillance systems. These include Interactive Digital Media (IDM) initiatives to enhance the student learning experience, develop staff capability and create innovative in-campus services. Some examples of the educational value of this partnership range from creating an Educational Channel, which allows broadcast of in-house training content, as well as Campus View, allowing students and visitors to view various parts of the Campus to help them make decisions on which areas to use.

This step is in line with the Media Development Authority’s (MDA) “Future of Media” programme which supports the development and delivery of next-generation applications, services and experiences. TP is working with the Interactive Digital Media (IDM) Programme Office hosted by MDA on setting up a Co-Space Testbed to offer an environment for made-in-Singapore innovations to support the Future of Media eco-system.

The MOU was signed by Mr. Boo Kheng Hua, Principal and CEO, TP, Mr. Bentinck Ng, Managing Director, iEcopolis and Mr. Arthur Huang, Chief Operating Officer, LG Electronics Singapore. The signing was witnessed by Mr. Seah Moon Ming, Chairman, Board of Governors, Temasek Polytechnic and Deputy CEO of ST Engineering Ltd, Mr. Michael Yap, MDA Deputy CEO and Executive Director, IDM Programme Office, Mr. Jackie Cheng, Chairman of Hisaka Holdings Ltd, and Mr. Jeff Cheh, MD of LG Electronics Singapore Pte Ltd.

Mr. Huang said: “LG’s philosophy is about enriching life through technology and this partnership creates excellent opportunities for students to create future innovations by pushing the boundaries in exploring, experimenting and experiencing.”

TP’s Mr. Boo said: “We are excited about piloting future IDM possibilities and this MOU is an endorsement of TP’s IDM capabilities. Besides strengthening the polytechnic’s infrastructure, this collaboration will give our students the opportunity to work on real-life business solutions in a learning environment.”

Mr Jackie Cheng said, “iEcopolis, a subsidiary of Mainboard-listed HISAKA Holdings Ltd., was incorporated to undertake eco-friendly initiatives to promote a greener environment. Hence with the commencement of this collaboration, it marks a new milestone for iEcopolis in expanding our footprint in the green space. As the main integrator for this eco-intelligent infrastructure, we will advise and implement more energy saving products and solutions to TP, for their Campus to be more environmentally friendly with the aim of reducing carbon footprint and improve the overall environment in time to come.”
