IDMPO companies gain traction in China
By admin • Aug 19th, 2010 • Category: IDM NewsSome 18 business deals and agreements were signed. It is heartening to see our startups making impact and gaining foothold in the China market. Two of our IDM-funded projects became the anchor for the Singapore Pavilion.
· TQ Global unveiled 3D TQ Motor, a racing game that lets drivers race along a 3D stereoscopic car race through Singapore. This is the most popular exhibit at the Media Showcase, with long lines of people waiting for their turn at the wheel. The display caught the attention of the Chinese media and is well featured. We supported the R&D for the game engine.
· Visitors will get a taste of “next-generation learning” through four educational and interactive applications developed by MXR Corporation Pte Ltd, a leading proponent of mixed reality technology in Singapore. Through MXR products, visitors to the Singapore Pavilion’s Media Showcase can manipulate and interact with physical and digital objects in real time, effectively allowing them to merge the real and virtual worlds and experience a whole new way of learning and storytelling. MXR is a spin-off from our IHL R&D project.
Among the deals and agreements signed during the trip, most were by companies supported by the IDMPO/NRF.
1. Acquisition of Azure Studio by Time Voyager, which adds to Time Voyager’s existing branch in China. Time Voyager is one of the fastest growing i.JAM startups and has now grown to close to 80-strong staff.
2. Five agreements between MXR and other Chinese and Singaporean companies to explore the use of the mixed reality in projects in China and Singapore. MXR has also received investment from Chinese enterprises.
3. An agreement between TQ Global and Guangdong Animation City to help develop a Digital Entertainment Technology Park.
4. ServTouch-WyWy signed two agreements with B-STAR and SiTv, and Wise Information, respectively. The agreements will create a portal for ServTouch’s content in China and enable ServTouch to promote made-in-China content in Singapore.
5. VeevTV signed an agreement with China Education Television (CETV) to develop new media programmes in Chinese language teaching and learning. CETV is the other nation-wide TV network in China, after CCTV.
6. Syqic Capital signed an agreement wih Huawei, the largest networking and telecommunications equipment supplier in China, to provide the peer-to-peer platform and graphical user interface (GUI) for the set-top boxes manufactured by Hua Wei.
7. Singapore company KAI Sqaure signed an agreement with Dalian University of Technology to research advanced video analytics for surveillance. KAI Square was one of the winners of the 2010 Emerging Enterprise Awards, a Singaporean award for SME’s.
These agreements are in addition to the setting up of a $100 million Gobi China-Singapore Media Venture fund to help more Singapore IDM companies gain market access to China and receive mentorship that will take their operations to the next level. This fund will also allow Chinese companies to tap into Singapore’s unique and competitive advantages as their gateway into Southeast Asian and the world. MDA is the LP to the fund.
