E-Book, Virtual World Proposals Wanted

To grow the digital media market in Singapore, 2 programmes were announced yesterday to spur the development of applications, services and business models that can be delivered through online publishing or virtual world environments.

Interested companies are invited to submit proposals that use technology, global distribution networks and educational content offered by the programme partner networks.

FutureBooks

Future Books hopes to generate innovative applications for multiple devices with learning-related content to reach a wider global audience.

The partner network is championed by Creative Technology and Singapore Press Holdings with industry players such as:

  • Personal e-Motion (PEM)
  • Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL)
  • Popular e-Learning Holdings
  • Times Publishing Group
  • Pearson Education

FutureWorlds

FutureWorlds aims to encourage the development of cutting-edge technology with virtual realities, 3D multi-sensory simulations and realistic immersive digital environments.

The partner network is championed by ST Electronics (Training and Simulation Systems) and comprises key members such as:

  • Singapore Tourism Board
  • Street Directory
  • KPB
  • Crystal Computer Graphics

The 2 initiatives will draw their financing from a combined S$370 million chest under Media Development Authority (MDA)’s Singapore Media Fusion Plan and the National Research Foundation’s Interactive Digital Media Research & Development Fund.
