The Interactive Digital Media (IDM) Research and Development (R&D) grant call is a joint initiative by Singapore Health Services (SHS) and Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) Interactive Digital Media Programme Office (IDMPO) to support IDM research & development of original and innovative applications, for interactive digital media solutions in the healthcare industry. See Annex A for the background to the grant call.

Proposals are sought for research ideas into improving the health status of Singaporeans through IDM technologies. Each research project will be co-funded by industry collaborators (1/3 by SHS & MDA, 2/3 by industry). SHS & MDA co-funding quantum is capped at $500,000 per proposal over a 3-year period.

Closing date for application is 30 September 2009, 5.00pm.

Eligibility Criteria

1. The proposed research project must be conducted in collaboration with SingHealth and the Principal Investigator must be primarily employed by SingHealth or member institutions.
2. Any partnering vendor/ collaborator must be registered as a legal entity and incorporated in Singapore. Commercial vendors will be identified through SingHealth’s Innovative Technology Applications Group (iTAG) in the industry application process.
3. Projects should be technological, creative, business model testing, or sociological in nature.
4. The project outcome should lead to significant improvements in bringing value-added services to the healthcare industry; or lead to tangible outcomes such as introduction of a products/ services, patents or adoption of new technology (See Annex B for review criteria).
5. Projects must not have commenced at the time of application.

Application Procedure

Interested applicants may send in their applications using the form attached. Failure to comply with all the requirements will result in rejection of the grant application.

Each Company can only submit one application for this grant call, after consultation with the clinical Principal Investigator and iTAG. Applications submitted without prior interviews and discussion with the clinical Principal Investigator and iTAG will be disqualified.

The completed application form and all accompanying documents (5 endorsed hard copies – 1 original and 4 photocopies) must be submitted to MDA’s Tender Box 5 by the closing date.
